Asemic Poetry

This is an example of Asemic poetry. Touchon took an old book of poetry and sliced the pages in half then turned one side upside down and glued the parts together then over wrote the original poetry with asemic writing.

Touchon also has an interest in Palimpsest works of which this work is an example .

In textual studies, a palimpsest is a manuscript page, either from a scroll or a book, from which the text has been scraped or washed off so that the page can be reused for another document. Wikipedia

In early times when materials were hard to come by materials were often scraped or washed off and reused by over writing on the old sheets of Parchment which is a writing material made from specially prepared untanned skins of animals—primarily sheep, calves, and goats. It has been used as a writing medium for over two millennia. Vellum is a finer quality parchment made from the skins of young animals such as lambs and young calves.

Life is a lot easier today with computers where we can endlessly erase our work and write over it. The down side from an artistic point of view is, once erased, it is gone with no ghost of the previous work left behind.
