When I was 30 years old an older woman standing next to me as we were looking at a painting I'd hung on my wall, said: 'Don't let anyone take that away from you!' You just do what you have to do to keep it all going.
Yes, there is no reason for artists to live under the constant tyranny of trying to 'make it'. The 'making it' should mean make your art. That is making it. That's the important thing.
