Everybody has heard of a charm bracelet. The first charm bracelets were worn by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, and Hittites and began appearing from 600 – 400 BC.
What if we started a trend of charm walls for the domicile? Pick a wall and instead of a big painting, start building a cluster of small works of collage, little paintings, drawings, photographs, a poem or small assemblage works, objects, artifacts, etc. and slowly add to it every year for yourself or loved ones. Something memorable, something with a story.
What better birthday or holiday present than a new piece of art for you or your loved ones’ charm or gifting wall instead of a sweater, box of candy or bottle of wine or some other thing nobody needs or wants and will soon forget or consume.
It is always a dilemma to go shopping for someone else to get them a gift for an occasion. A lot of people end up regifting things people give them because they already have three of them (and they really didn’t want the first one.)
If everybody had a charm/gifting wall then everybody would know exactly what to get each other every year and you would be helping out all of the artists out there that need somebody to buy their art. Over time people could trade pieces from their gifting walls with other ‘collectors’. This is definitely better than beanie babies, Christmas ornaments or pet rocks.
The other cool thing would be to have a special book shelf or chest of drawers where you archive additional small works in storage for your charm wall and every season change out a few pieces to keep it fresh and ever changing (and lets you collect more of them) instead of a storage unit full of boxes and boxes of seasonal holiday nicnacs and decorations. Artists could send charming small works back and forth to each other for each other’s gifting walls or charm collection.
Just a thought. If you like it, it might be time to start planning for the holidays.
What do you think about that idea?

Love it. You have to have friends tho.
aaaaahhh, the days of the Fluxlist.
What a great idea. It could also be an add-on item to a regular gift, say as a starter piece to begin or add to a wall collection.
