I read Cafe Anne today and found it very moving. What a fine thing to sponser J and coach his artist path. I think it's wonderful. I have been enticed by wandering and acted on those impulses as a much younger person in the 60's and early 70's and still feel the pull of the art/monk path. I really enjoyed the interview and look forward to updates.
Thanks for writing Hilary. Here is J's substack that I help him set up https://jcirro.substack.com/ he can use more subscribers. And I made sure he got his domain name too. Later I'll show him how to attach it to the substack page. I keep telling him to start adding his art to make the poem posts look better but he hasn't got there yet. Yes, many of us have the call to the wild, to the life of the dervish. By that I mean: Dervishes seek to transcend their ego and attain a state of spiritual union with the Divine Beloved. Dervish literally mean 'beggar' but only in the sense of internal poverty and depending on following the 'call'. Which for artists is basically developing and following your intuition since that is where the call comes from - the depths of the heart.
