Hi Folks,
I start the year 2025 with Post #350! I feel pretty proud of myself for maintaining consistency over a long period of time. When I was younger I was always battling this problem of staying on track. I still have this same problem in many areas of life. One’s individual life is complicated and has so many elements to it. It is hard to establish and maintain intention and put your attention on all of the elements of your life that you want to keep up with. To get good at one thing is always at the sacrifice of other things. And it can be hard to decide at any given time which things are the important things and which ones are not: what to hold on to and what to let go of.
I discuss this here:
While the fact that today is the beginning is a new year is arbitrary - everyday really is the beginning of a new year - still, today is as good of a day as any to begin and to continue. We have the calendar to work for us in marking our days.
Imagine you are starting a new semester in college. What courses are you going to set for yourself? What projects? What goals?
Here was me thinking about this idea last January…
I accomplished my goal of going out for walks everyday. Toward the end of 2024 I was upgrading my walking schedule to 7,500 steps a day. In the last couple of weeks I have averaged 9,000 steps a day and so, for 2025, I am going to shoot for 10,000 steps a day plus go to the gym as many days of the week as possible for about an hour. Logging in at the gym will help keep me accountable. I am shooting for 20+ days a month.
I have already stated that I am going to incorporate my musicality experiments into my studio time with the intention of bring that work to market.
And what the heck, I am going to work on a science fiction saga that I have been thinking about in my head for 25+ years using ChatGPT as my editing assistant. I just started that project in mid December and I have come up with 16,000+ words of story so far not counting research and world building. My goal is to have a mostly finished 100,000+ word manuscript by the end of 2025. Will it be any good? I couldn’t say. I have never written a fictional story before. But I should learn a lot in the process and work a different part of my brain.
OK that should be enough to keep me busy. What about you? What is your creative life going to look like this year? Chop, chop. (Or as they say in Cantonese; ‘chok chok’)
Happy New Year Cecil! Enjoy the ride! Especially since you’re driving! Cheers!
I don't do resolutions on New Years or really any time. I more or less just set out to do something and plan out when and how after the procrastination is swept away finally. But just a few minutes ago I had an idea of something I want to do.......I have some much older assemblages that didn't sell and are in the garage. Some are really good pieces and worthy of keeping and respecting. But there are some that I'm eyeing to take apart and re-use in new pieces......keeping the cycle going since all the elements were once used in another lifetime. This way, the pieces, or their parts can live on in new ones. I'm definitely going to do this as it'll also keep the costs down of buying quality junk.
