Today is, Saturday 7/20/24,
I spent the morning and early afternoon loading the car with the show and stuff for the collage workshops, some cameras, microphones and miscellaneous other things for documentation purposes. Then my clothes and personal stuff. I packed a dozen collages for my dealer in NYC and got them to the UPS store and headed out on the road about 2:15pm. Hopefully I didn’t leave anything important behind. I usually do.
It is a nine hour drive to Fort Worth, Texas from Albuquerque. It is a long way to everywhere in the southwestern part of the country, Fort Worth is where I am going to stay for the week to hang out with my son Zach and his wife Katia who I am hoping will help with the installation. Also I’ll be hanging out with my daughter Brittany and her hubby Emil and my best friend Henry (my grandson).
I stopped in Amarillo, Texas to spend the night which is about a 4 hour drive from ABQ and about 5 hours to Fort Worth. So that makes a nice break in the drive and why I could leave so late today. I even got in a thirty minute evening walk. The temperature with very pleasant for some reason, about 80 degrees. That seems unusually mild for mid July in the Texas Panhandle.
Today is, Sunday 7/21/24.
I drove the rest of the way to Fort Worth, Texas and arrived about 12:30 pm, I went to Zach and Katia’s place and hung out with Zach looking at a new series of mixed media canvases he is working on. Looking good. We then went out with Henry and Emil to lunch on Magnolia and had pizza and beers. I then headed over to Emil and Brittany’s house and laid down for a while. Meanwhile Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Harris. I watched Minions with Henry for the evening. Then watched YouTube to see what the mood was for Biden dropping out of the race. Looks pretty positive.
Today is, Monday 7/22/24,
Now Trump is the very old guy in the race - he is only 3 years younger than Biden and will be the oldest person to ever seek the office as a convict, rapist, fraudster, what-to-be dictator with probable dementia who has destroyed the Republican party running against the vice president - highest-ranking female official in US history, former US Senator, former state attorney, former prosecutor, a generation younger (assuming there are not any challengers). It is like we are in some weird never ending TV series that never gets to the conclusion.
And let’s not forget the assassination attempt, the weird Republican convention, project 2025, the Supreme Court shenanigans, Judge Canon in Florida, Ukraine and Gaza just to throw in some other sub-plots for the last week or two. It seems we are living in the middle of a historic shit show. Or is it just another Monday? I hope this is not merely the hors d'oeuvres of something worse to come. So there is all of that for a general backdrop.
Meanwhile I just realized that there are two full collage workshops of 10 people each and the third one almost full. So I am going to have to run over to the art supply store and pick up a few more supplies. Tomorrow, Tuesday, I will be heading over to Ferrari Gallery to start figuring out the install for the Visual Poetry show. More about that tomorrow.
It's great that you have time to spend with your family while on this trip and lucky for you the temperature is mild. I especially want to thank you for all that you do for the collage community. You certainly go above and beyond for all of us.
I like your take on the recent political happenings. It was fun to read. You summed it up perfectly.
Love hearing your family catch up and about your best friend. Our Grandgirl and I are very close and I enjoy time with her so much. I’m excited for you about the workshops!! Maybe a few photos from them? Can’t wait to see the show installed. Carry on!
