I draw every morning before getting up. I bring a cup of coffee, sharpened pencils, kneaded erasers, small ruler and my drawing board with the drawing I"m working on. I started doing this every day a couple of years ago and I find that it sets a creative tone for the rest of the day, regardless of whatever bills, paperwork, and other business/house/day-to-day chores need to be taken care of. I usually listen to a podcast while drawing. By the way, you are the most organized artist I know!!!

Thanks for commenting Ginnie! So do you work with your drawing board on your lap on your bed? Or do you have a little table or something? I am trying to imagine it. I have a desk set up in the bedroom for a couple of years now just waiting for me to use it in the morning or evening but I never seem to make use of it for some reason. I always head down the stairs to make a coffee and then go strait to the office to 'log in' and write down what day it is and when I woke up and maybe write some stuff on the computer then to the collage table or the breakfast nook table to read something or just strait to the painting studio. All are within 10 steps of the coffee pot. Maybe I am just missing a coffee pot upstairs. That could be the main problem. Maybe I should get a hot pot to have tea upstairs. I wonder if that would make a difference. I do like the desk space upstairs, it has windows looking out over the mountains. I am going to try that out... I'll let you know if it makes a difference... Hum...

Yes, I work with my drawing board on my lap in bed. Here's the drawing board I use:

I make coffee the night before, put it in the refrigerator and drink it chilled in the morning. A hot pot upstairs may work for you!

I love the word sticktoitiveness, and actually use it at times. Looking forward to reading more of your musings on the subject. There are definitely areas in my life where I need a little more of it!

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. I wish more people would. As a collage artist sticktoitiveness is a big subject! Glue and paper!

I have insomnia most night so my thoughts often go to "planning" what I'll do once I'm up in the morning. But then that day comes and procrastination sets in and I end up doing whatever I feel like anyway. Things get done but not in any sort of planning stage. I like this about retirement. Do what I want when I want and yet the important stuff does get done eventually.

Thanks for your stick-to-itiveness in leaving thoughtful comments! much appreciated! I wish more readers would do the same. Yes, I too am in the fortunate position be being 'retired'. I have always said that I retired from gainful employment in my 30's. All entrepreneurialism since then. Of course artists never retire from being artists.

"Of course artists never retire from being artists." TRUTH!! I like to comment as you often provide such food for thought. I enjoy being stimulated to think beyond the obvious and you provide that with your writing. Thank you.
