The collage above is one of a sequential series of five collages from 1995 that I just bought on etsy of all places and the package of these five framed collages arrived yesterday afternoon. I was so happy to have been able to acquire this group of my collages from 1995. I might have to make more in this suite. I really like them.
These are from 30 years ago. Wow. We were living in Pagosa Springs, Colorado at that time. We were living in a foreclosed modular home that we bought in 1993 on the fifth green of a golf course. I was studying Aikijutzu (a Japanese martial art) and had just gotten my first computer - a 386 desktop from my sensei that, at first, I had no idea where the ‘on’ switch was. No wonder, it was on the back of the computer for some reason.
A couple of years ago this group of collages sold at an estate auction and I didn’t notice until after they had sold and I was sad that I missed that opportunity but they showed back up and, by accident, I happened to notice them again so I had to get them.
I have bought back my work from long ago on a number of occasions when I happen on to it and am always so happy to have them return home.
One thing is, all of my early work was not photographed well if at all. Everything was recorded with 35 mm slides and I sucked as a photographer. Hence, much was lost and it was before good digital cameras and the internet or just at the very beginning of it and we were poor so I often could not even afford to develop my film.
Having these works fills in an important gap in my archives.
I was so glad my mom photographed all of her paintings. I inherited all of the family photos and this is part of the collection I treasure.
So good you found them on Etsy of all places!! And have them. Yay! Chuck was able to buy back one of his pieces at an estate sale last year. Saw it in photos of the upcoming sale on Instagram. And, Several years ago, someone who knew our son, found a large framed drawing of mine out by a trash can, retrieved it, and gave it to our son. It was from the late 70s! I have no idea why it was tossed but was happy to see it again.
