This is quite an interesting 🤔 discussion. I think that the points made have value. I practice creating with intention and can see how my choices have changed over time to be in alignment with the list of considerations. I do try to investigate if I am unsure. Ethics in any area is important but even with governing bodies it still has an imperfect human component. There can be ethical dilemmas. Who gets to decide what is ethical and who enforces the standards? Hmm...As an artist my way of being is always aimed at serving the highest good so that is my ethical compass. I also know there is more of the journey to go. I hope as human beings we are headed toward greater awareness and more conscious, ethical living. Lots to reflect on here. I enjoyed reading the comments to gain insight on different perspectives.
Yes I think this summation is on the money (so to speak🤭). I try and create with those values in mind. I do find I am sometimes conflicted when I use materials for collage that have come from a source that isn’t mine, like a portion of a photograph etc. That’s tricky to navigate , but I will always use attribution where possible. I think if I come at the work with an open and authentic heart, it will lead me to the right place. This sounds a bit naff but it has worked for me so far in my creative journey 😊
I might think about some of these things when creating. Most of my materials are used/recycled/found. Some of my work is NOT politically correct at all and can and has stirred up debate. I just try to be as authentic as I am conscious of and just do my thing. And I appreciate any kind of feedback as long as it's constructive and not just poo-pooed for the sake of being an asshole and complain.
Thanks, Cecil. You’ve done a good job covering the issues. Very thoughtful.
